How To Choose Your Wedding Shoes

By L Hayes

That perfect wedding gown is incomplete without the perfect wedding shoes. Many brides make the mistake of undermining the importance of their wedding shoes, concentrating on the gown but you will realize that bridal footwear is of prime importance as traditional gowns that covered the shoes are fast becoming a thing of the past and newer sheer materials showcase beautiful feet perfectly. Here are some tips on choosing your wedding shoes.

First and foremost, before all else, buy your wedding shoes with level of comfort in mind. Just because stilettos may be in fashion and make you tall and sexy, does not mean you are going to be comfortable through the whole wedding ceremony and reception in them! High heels are a cause of lower back pain and also could cause you to have a slipped disc if you fall and definitely you don’t want to be spending your honeymoon in a hospital with your groom by your side.

Choose sensible heels that are comfortable and also consider the style and material of the shoe. You can get shoes in various materials like cotton, leather, and silk as well as newer materials that look exquisite. The length of your wedding gown is equally important in determining your choice of style of the shoes. If you are wearing a short dress, you will do well to wear a higher heel as they will help accentuate your legs whereas, a long dress will hide your shoes. You may feel you can even wear open toed styles or even slippers. You can also choose to go barefoot and wear only jewel tattoos and barefoot sandals that are so popular for a beach wedding ceremony.

Also match your wedding shoes to the décor or theme of your wedding. Bridal shoes can also be bought with matching bridal accessories like your hat, gloves, purse, etc. to complete the look. Be wary of too many hanging or decorative elements that are fixed upon the shoe. One reason is, they can fall off and ruin the look, but if you buy a shoe that has many rhinestone and metallic elements, they may get caught in your wedding dress and you may either slip or ruin your gown.

You should definitely start shopping for your wedding shoes simultaneously with your gown. When you finalize your shoes, see to it that they are a material that can be dyed to the specifications of your gown. Many of the newer wedding shoes are available in such materials and you can take along your shoes when you try on your wedding gown for the fitting. This will allow you to see what the complete ensemble is like.

Finally, wearing your wedding shoes will also help you to break in the new shoes and prevent shoe-bites or blisters from new shoes so you can start to care for your feet in advance too. You can also wear them around the house so that you don’t damage your wedding shoes and also start to walk easily in them. Pamper your feet, paint your toenails and put on your wedding shoes and walk proudly to the altar in style.
