Wedding Tips - Styling Your Hair

By Nicole Lindsey

The bride is the focal point of any wedding. Every guest anticipates the moment when the bride comes strolling down the aisle—also known as her personal runway. Because she is the center of attention during the wedding ceremony, the bride must take careful consideration when planning her look. Not only should she find a flattering dress, bridal jewelry, and a headpiece, but she should also determine which hairstyle would be most becoming on her. Below you will find a list of helpful elements to consider when choosing your hairstyle for the wedding day.

Dress

Just as you would select bridal jewelry based on the style of your dress—so should the style of your dress influence your hairstyle. For example, bridal gowns that have a lot of detail on the bodice area would require an updo, otherwise if a bride wears her hair down it will distract others from seeing the detail of the dress.

Bridal Jewelry

Another factor that influences the bride’s hairstyle is bridal jewelry. It is pointless to wear stunning diamond or Swarovski crystal chandelier earrings if the bride’s hair is going to cover it up. Usually, a bride will choose an updo to show off her earrings and necklace.

Hair Length

Many brides search through magazines to find the perfect hairdo. When deciding upon a particular hairstyle, it is important for a bride to consider the length of her hair. For example, it would be difficult for a bride to wear an updo if her hair is shaved or tapered in the back. Additionally, the length of her hair influences a bride’s choice of bridal jewelry as well.

Personal Preference

More than anything else, it is important for a bride to be comfortable with how she looks. Aside from everyone else’s opinions, a bride should choose a hairstyle that looks best to her.

Time of Day

The time of day in which the ceremony will take place also has a major impact on the bride’s hairdo. Usually updos are more appropriate for evening weddings, while wearing the hair down or partially down is more suitable for daytime weddings. However, there are no set rules when it comes to what a bride wants for her wedding day—it is simply a matter of preference.

Choosing a hairstyle for the wedding is one of the most important decisions that a bride will make. It ranks high along with her bridal gown, shoes, and bridal jewelry. In fact, a bride’s hairstyle will have a major impact on the outcome of her photo album—so she should choose wisely.
